Comparing Thread Counts

These days, shopping for bedding can be confusing what with the popularity of thread counts. A thread count is the number of threads used per square inch of fabric. It counts both the horizontal and vertical threads. Thread counts can range anywhere between 80 to 1500 or more.

Many shoppers look for the highest thread counts they can afford because they believe that those are the most superior. However, experts say that a 600 thread count sheet set may not necessarily be inferior to a 1000 thread count sheet set. There are other factors that need to be considered such as fiber length, number of tread ply used and whether a finishing process has been used, to acquire accurate comparison.
