pillows

Young or old, all people need a place to sleep. This means a bed to lie on and rest one’s weary body. Ideally, beds are supposed to have soft, fluffy pillows and snug sheets to make sleep time a truly relaxing and enjoyable experience. To many, it is unimaginable to be without a pillow and a blanket, or a comforter at bedtime.

Very young babies however, will still be able to sleep soundly even without pillows. As a matter of fact, these cloth cases filled with feathers, down, air or foam rubber aren’t something they really need. In his book Baby and Child Care, renowned parenting expert Dr. Benjamin Spock says that when sleeping, a newborn baby does not need a pillow for his head and that it’s better not to use one. He also advises parents against using a soft pillow as a mattress for their baby. Babies are delicate and fragile compared to toddlers and preschoolers. Older children relish sleeping with pillows; some even have two or three for snuggling and cuddling.
