This is a cutting tool with a horizontal blade. Its cutting action is achieved through push and pull reciprocating motion. Thus, the name reciprocating saw. It has many applications in the home, although it is not a kind of tool that you will usually find in an ordinary toolbox. However, professional plumbers and electricians find this tool indispensable. Its special function is a blade that can get to hard-to-reach places

Designs of reciprocating saws vary as to power, speed and features. Some of the features in newer models of the saw are variable speed and orbital action. This action consists of oscillating the traversed reciprocation in up and down fashion (perpendicular to the motion of cut) causing the tip of the blade to move in an oval pattern, up and down as well as back and forth. This feature is primarily for wood, allowing quick cuts. The reciprocating saw is used mainly for rough cutting and demolition tasks, such as cutting through rebar or support beams,
